Pathways to Parenthood, The Ultimate Guide to Surrogacy
has been released! Click the link to the left, "Buy the Book", for purchasing information
Pathways to Parenthood is a "how to" guide to Surrogacy. While it is intended more for IPs, it is a great resource book for anyone considering surrogacy be it IP or SM. It coveres the ends and outs of surrogacy from deciding if surrogacy is right for you to contact after the birth and everything in between.
What is a Gestational Surrogate, you might ask?
A Gestational Surrogate is a woman that carries a baby for another woman who can not carry herself. Gestational Surrogates have absolutely no genetic ties to the child she carries. The surrogate goes through an IVF cycle where an embryo(s) is transferred into her uterus and hopefully that results in a pregnancy. The embryo is either related to the Intended Parents, A sperm donor, egg donor or both.
Why would you be a Gestational Surrogate?
Oh, I get this one a lot. The simple answer is to help couples become families. Surrogacy is an excellent option for couples who, through more traditional means, may never become parents. It gives a chance to have a biological connection to your child or just the piece of mind that the surrogate is not related to the child.
My personal reasons for wanting to be a surrogate range from wanting to feel incredibly special to finding injustice in the world. I have seen, too many times, children brought into this world who were not wanted, abused, addicted to drugs and abandoned. The flip side to this is I have seen the greatest women, ones who would make excellent mothers and want nothing more than to be called, "Mommy," be deprived of something that is so easily given to the rest of us, including the not so deserving ones.
So those are the cliffs notes of my Surrogate Journeys. I will update this site as often as time allows.
